New Orleans is one of the most famous and fun city in the country. World renowned for its carnival, cajun food and never-ending parties, this southern city has a lot to offer including shopping spots. The amount of malls in New Orleans is not very high, but you won’t be asking for more as there are great shops all over the city. We will tell you where to find luxury brands, other cheaper shops, famous fashion brands and the shops that you can visit in the outlets.

Canal Place

The New Orleans Downtown is home to many attractions for both tourists and locals. You will see everything from restaurants and coffee shops to museums and large hotels. Of course going shopping is also an option in this area of the city as here is one of the best malls in New Orleans. Although Canal Place is not the largest shopping center in town, it is the one with the most exclusive shops. These are headed by the famous department store Saks Fifth Avenue. Inside you can find the latest fashion from luxury brans from all around the world, including accesories, shoes, clothing and more.

It’s not the only luxury store in the mall as there’s also Louis Vuitton, plus MCM, Tiffany & Co, Tory Burch or Golden Goose (where you can buy their famous sneakers). You can also visit other shops like Michael Kors, Brooks Brothers, Anthropologie, Allen Edmonds or even buy clothes for children in Saint Maison. This mall (which is connected to the Westin hotel) also has several restaurants as well as movie theatres.

Lakeside Shopping Center

Among all the malls in New Orleans that we will see in this list, Lakeside Shopping Center is the largest one. It was also the first to open in the city since it has been operating for more than 60 years. Since then it has grown a lot and has remained a favorite in the city thanks to its large number of shops and restaurants. There are many shops that you will not find in any other shopping malls in the city including one of its anchor stores: Macy’s.

You can also buy clothes at some of its many international brands stores such as Zara or Armani Exchange, as well as Free People, Athleta, Madewell, Lululemon and Altar d State. Other highlights include Sephora, the Apple Store or Lego, as well as having excellent furnitures stores such as Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn. Dining option are here too including both fast food and fine dining at restaurants like Fleming s or A´Tavola.

Elmwood Shopping Center

Near the airport you can also go shopping at the Elmwood Shopping Center. It’s not like the other malls in New Orleans, as in addition to having an outdoor design, their stores are not connected and are scattered in a lot parking. You can buy a lot of things at places like the discount stores stores Marshalls (which also include HomeGoods, their home-decor store) and T.J.Maxx.

These are not the only places to get bargains as you can also go to the Express and Skechers outlet stores in addition to going to DSW which is great if you are looking for shoes at a good price. You can also buy sports clothing & shoes at the Nike store or electronics at Best Buy.

Oakwood Center

Across the Mississippi River lies Gretna which is where one of the most popular malls in New Orleans is located: Oakwood Center. There are many famous shops in the shopping center so you can spend the whole afternoon watching them all. It has three anchor stores including JCPenney and Dillard’s plus the famous Dick’s sporting goods store. Oakwood Center also hosts major fast fashion brands like H&M, Old Navy and Forever 21.

In addition to having a food court you can also have a snack at the world famous Cafe Du Monde and try the beignets and coffee. One important thing you should know is that this was one of the malls in New Orleans that was most affected by Hurricane Katrina, but it was rebuilt almost entirely months later.

The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk

Unlike other major cities where their outlet malls are located on the outskirts of the city, here happens the opposite. The outlets in New Orleans are located in downtown, close to Canal Place, the aquarium and other attractions. As its name suggests, this shopping center is located on the Riverwalk, overlooking the Mississippi River. That’s not the best thing about this place as what makes it famous are its many fashion stores.

The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk was not always an outlet mall, but had full price stores in its beginnings and until 2014 it became the place we know today. In its more than 60 stores you can get great deals and discounts. Don’t forget to visit the outlet stores of brands such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Bahama, Coach, Levi´s and GAP. Also here you can go to Nordstrom Rack, the discount store of the famous luxury department store where you can find even more options with good prices.

Other Places to Go Shopping in New Orleans

Algiers Plaza: There are several other malls in New Orleans, although smaller as is the case with Algiers Plaza. Although there are not many shops, this place stands out mainly for its various discount stores. Here you can go to T.J.Maxx, Ross or Burkes Outlets. These three stores are famous for their low prices on clothing and accessories for women, men and children, featuring products from well-known brands such as Nike, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein or Champion. There are also other shops such as Petco and Five Below as well as some restaurants and other businesses.


Westbank Village Shopping Center: In the south of New Orleans is located this strip mall with few, but good shops. The most famous is Burlington, which is another good choice if you are looking for clothes, shoes, sunglasses or even bags on sale. You can also go to Skechers Warehouse where you can buy shoes of this brand with discount. Just opposite there is another strip mall also with several interesting shops. Its name is Centre at Westbank and here you can buy clothes for men, shoes, furniture as well as having a Best Buy and the Barnes & Noble bookstore.
